OUR MISSION

Multiplying Disciples of Christ by the Word of God for the Glory of God

MISSION STATEMENT

Meadowlands Baptist Church is committed to multiplying disciples of Christ who love God, serve others, and reach the world for God’s glory.

Love God,
Love Others

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40)

Multiply Disciples,
Reach the World

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19-20)

Loving God

Jesus said that the greatest command is to love God with all your heart. This is what motivates everything we do. Even good deeds are not pleasing to the Lord if they come from a motive other than love for God. Our goal in worship is to cultivate a greater love for God. Our prayers, music, and preaching aim to stir our hearts as we see God’s love and grace in the gospel.

Serving Others

Jesus said that the second greatest command in the Bible is to show love to others. Jesus then illustrated this command by telling the story of the Good Samaritan. Genuine love produces sacrificial action. “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). As followers of Christ, we must serve others.

We view ministry as important value for our entire church. Each member of Meadowlands should be serving others in some way. Our goal is to equip each person to serve the Lord in some way with the gifts and talents that He has given.

Multiply Disciples

Jesus told His followers to “make disciples of all the nations.” The church is not called to convince people to merely make decisions by walking an aisle or signing a card. We are called to make disciples. Jesus explains that this involves “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” Christ’s strategy for expansion of His church is multiplication. We are to make disciples and train them to make disciples.

Of course, the training manual for discipleship is the Bible. This is why our teaching on Sundays seeks to expound the text with accuracy and clarity. Our pastors and teachers diligently study God’s Word so that they can “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Ephesians 4:11). Only the Scriptures can equip God’s people for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).

Reaching the World

Christ’s last command should be our first concern. He told His followers to “proclaim the gospel to every creature” and to “make disciples of all the nations.” This is certainly a massive responsibility.

Jesus told us the way to reach the world was to start at home and then expand from there. “Be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). That is what we are striving to do with God’s wisdom and power. We want to reach out to our neighbours and work associates. We want to shine as lights in south Edmonton. We also want to help start churches in other parts of our city and province. We are grateful that God has used us to do this several times over the last decade.

We are also committed to supporting church planting throughout Western Canada. We are also thrilled that we get to partner with various missionaries in South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. God has allowed us to send out two of our church families to the foreign mission field, and we pray that the Lord will continue to send labourers from our church into His harvest.
